These disorders are known as Specific Learning Disorders (SLD). A diagnosis of SLD requires evidence of at least six months of targeted educational intervention in the area of academic weakness. For an assessment, you will need to book the Cognitive Abilities Profile and the Academic Skills Profile. The Social-Emotional-Behaviour Profile is recommended but not required. You will need to book two sessions. Do not book them on the same day.

The WISC-V is the most widely used instrument to assess cognitive functioning. This forms the basis of my cognitive profile. However, although it provides valuable data, the WISC-V alone is not usually considered to be sufficient as an assessment tool, particularly for diagnostic purposes.
It does not measure every broad domain of cognitive functioning. For this reason, I supplement the WISC-V with subtests from other assessment batteries using a technique called cross-battery assessment. This allows for a more comprehensive analysis of abilities. If you are uncertain, please contact us to clarify.

Psychologists must adhere to strict ethical guidelines regarding confidentiality. When you receive your report, you are able to forward it to other professionals and relevant school staff as necessary in the best interests of the client. It is recommended that reports are shared with your child’s treating professionals and support team.

The sessions can be quite tiring for clients. To ensure valid results, it is best to hold sessions on different days. The gap between sessions should not be too long, however. The two sessions should be within a month of each other.
